It’s Pigeon Guillemot season! These marvelous birds are moving onto the shores of the Salish Sea for their breeding season. The Salish Sea Guillemot Network of volunteers (250 of us) have already started collecting data for the 2026 season of our community science program.
This weekend, you can learn all about the guillemots and other birds at the Puget Sound Bird Fest in Edmonds, Washington. Shannon Boldt, the regional coordinator of the Salish Sea Guillemot Network, will be giving a presentation on the guillemots at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and I’ll be at the Edmonds Bookshop table signing copies of my book, The Bird with Flaming Red Feet from 11:30-1:30 and 2:30-4 p.m. on Saturday This popular annual bird festival is organized by the Pilchuck Audubon Society (click link for details and schedule of events).
