I recall just diving out of a canoe in summer camp in 1975 and thrashing my legs over the gunwale to get back in, but I could recall the exact technique to accomplish this feat mid-lake. The Internet and YouTube channel were of little help as most advice applied to kayaks or to getting in a swamped canoe in about three feet of water. So, with my seaworthy, camera-totin’ husband we launched our Penobscot 16 canoe into my neighborhood lake for a little Wild Swimmer challenge. It wasn’t pretty but it worked.
if your wild swimming adventures have been hampered by the lack of this useful skill or if you need a few minutes of comic relief, here are two videos just for you.
